Painting

So another Eldar finished, that makes enough crew for two support weapons, just need to get on with them some day. At the moment one is built and primed the other in pieces, can not decide on colour so will wait until I have an idea!

Still working on the Kobolds, with the assassin duplicate figure nearly done. Also been prepping up the army lists for the intended game. I have decided to pit a greenskin gang against the Kobolds, this is good because I have many greenskin types already painted. It didn’t stop me painting one more though –

A long neglected and never painted Ral Partha creature from 1976. Not really sure what the figure is, thought it looked goblinish, so decided that will do. Not one of the best sculpts but still usable in my book.

Painting

A slight downturn in painting time over the weekend has at least yielded another two Kobolds. First up is one of the Assassins. I’ve made a mistake by not painting the other with this one but I think I needed variety. He was a bit fiddly to do especially as his base is just too small for the citadel handle, requiring a bit of pressure. During undercoating he came unstuck and flew off across the floor!

Next finished was the Kobold champion, who seems to go into battle chained and blindfolded! he sort of lends himself to a fanatic type.

For the moment I’m back on another Eldar, just the one. then more…Kobolds!

Painting

Project Firebrand Kobold – Four more recruits now finished, ready to join the Queen Kobold’s shrine. Next in line are two kobold assassins although again as is usually the case, I am struggling to understand some of the sculpt of the miniature. Still that’s eight out of twenty, some progress then!

In other good news, I managed to pick up a copy of Cursed City and at the right price. My local Warhammer shop had one that a preorder customer had changed their mind on. Top stars to the manager, who knew I was after a copy and saved it for me.

Why is it Brother Hedley never keeps his beard tidy?

Project Firebrand Kobold

Yes I’ve upgraded to ‘firebrand kobold’ after reading the booklet that came with the box. Not quite the Kobolds I had planned but Kobolds none the less. Finished off the other three archers and now starting on four spear wielding lizards, I mean Fk’s. All the miniatures come ready made which is okay, although a few of the arm joins are poor. Minor quibbles aside I am starting to enjoy the project and have begun work on the battletop scenario in readyness for the next game.

Project Kobold

Took the plunge and started on – Epic Encounters, Shrine of the Kobold Queen box. There are twenty miniatures in the set with nine unique sculpts.

I decided to start on the four Kobolds with rickety looking bows, the detail is quite soft due to the uh.. soft plastic used. I admit I struggled enjoying painting the first one. I decided not to be fussy about some of the mold lines as the figures are quite small, in keeping with a Kobold! I could of done better on some of the contrasting colours, but I figured I would vary the other three.

I’m already thinking about a small terrain board to go along with these critters as well as a skirmish battle, probably with a bunch of greenskins. The thought of the battle will hopefully see me through the paint.

Painting

With progress being somewhat slow on the Eldar project, due to a current butterfly approach to the production line, I decided to start another ‘mini’ project. Through a voucher I had last xmas, I brought a boxed set – Epic Encounter’s Shrine of the Kobold Queen.

It was admittedly a slightly random decision, one spurred by the thought that I didn’t have any Kobold miniatures. Not exactly important but enough to tip the balance. I also liked the idea of buying an instant horde for Dungeon/wilderness battles. Hopefully I will stay determined and finish it!

Last night I painted a Skaven Gutter Runner which typically had sneaked itself onto the painting handle.

Always liked these Marauder Miniatures Skaven. especially the Gutter Runner with its ninja training.

Painting

Back on track with some new brushes so managed to finish another ‘Nightfolk’ from the Northumbrian Tin Soldier range. This one is the Watchman and I couldn’t quite decide whether his nostrils were at the end on his nose or nearer his eyes . I guess these are the dilemma’s a miniature painter has to put up with!

Not Painting

Yesterday was nearly a total blank on the painting front, I managed to prime a couple of models but that was it! I also took stock of my painting brushes and have to says was somewhat alarmed. I seem to be down to one decent detail brush and one half decent layer brush. The other dozen or so are in very poor condition, I think it has been a case of soldering on an not realising (actually the real reason is that I have been too lazy to get any!).

Emergency action was needed and I popped down to the local warhammer store at lunchtime to replenish with a few brushes. I will still need to order some more but at least I can get going again. I spoke to the chap running the shop about the Cursed City ‘debacle’ he hinted that there was a problem with one of the overseas suppliers (not the uk miniature manufacturing). He also hoped that the miniatures would be brought out in their own right again. There were apparently three copies left at various warhammer shops throughout the UK.

In the meantime with no painted figure to show, I’ll instead use a fantasy squiggle….

Fantasy Boardgame Miniatures

Here we have a troll from the dragon’s gate expansion set for Dark World by Waddingtons. I never played the game myself but did pick it up at a car boot many years ago. I think there must of been some of the figures from the expansion sets in the game I got, and I still mean to model the terrain piece into something one day. Not the best figures granted but still very usable none the less.

Painting

I have quite a few Northumbrian Tin Soldier sets, brought a few years back and I finally decided to start on a blister. I really like their range of Nightfolk with it’s whimsical touch. I do have plans for a game, one far off distant day, with them when completed! – I rushed this one through the line today in my eagerness, this figure is called The Twins.
